A rather interesting individual with unusual orange coloration. Such coloration is caused either by deficiency of red carotenoids in its diet and/or deficiency in the metabolic pathway metabolising red carotenoids from diet. One way or another, it would be interesting to know if this bird is "advanced" young bird (i.e. 2CY, euring: 5) or contrary an old individual of low body quality (2CY+, euring: 6). Ageing Scarlet Rosefinches apart from red/brown indiviual is not particularly easy and I am still not sure. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

I sexed this bird as female even though it was quite early in the season and this bird did not showed any sign of broodpatch, yet. On the other hand, cloaca looked nothing like that of a male which, at this point of the year, is clearly developed in males as they are full with testosteron and ready to breed at any moment.
