Another major update to the gallery
9th November, 2020 | News & updates
I corrected this post on 2nd December 2020 as it was full of typos. I also tried to make some sentences a bit more clearer and easier to read. I apologize for publishing this post in such a bad shape originally, it was done in a hurry after long work on the gallery.
Dear visitors of my website,
today another big number of birds were uploaded to the gallery – with 814 new birds uploaded we are now at 1 416 individuals of 136 species and 43 families in the gallery available for you to study moult, identification, ageing, sexing or just admire the shear beauty of birds and their intraspecific variation.
Compared to previous state, there are now 19 more families avalable. Number of species grew by 70. I have updated all the families and species which were already available, some of them now contain new species that I happened to photograph. You can find new species mainly in families such as Fringillidade, Phylloscopidae, Alcenididae, Accipitridae or Strigidae. But also families such as Acrocephalidae or Picidae were greatly updated with many new individuals.
I completed my collection of all the non-passerine species (and families), so now you can find in the gallery all the non-passerines I have photographed so far. Considering passerines, I tried to upload new families in let’s say some “taxonomic” order. So there are now uploaded families belonging to the infraorder Corvida, as well as many new families in the Passerida, namely the in the superfamilies of Sylvioidea and Passeroidea. You can find all the new changes in the gallery changelog , as usual.
I also went through all of the “old” birds and I tried to correct some identification errors that I discovered. But no one is perfect, and I am very far from that, so there still might be some errors left. If you find some, please email them to me. I would be really grateful for that.
Those of you who use a very well mantained Identification Atlas of Aragon's Birds might have noticed that there are some pictures from this website. I am very happy that our pictures are begining to be useful and that this gallery slowly starts to make its purpose and are used by other people with similar projects and aims. I hope my collaboration with Javier Blasco-Zumeta will continue in the future.
So what next? Well, if we consider how “fast” I am updating the gallery, I am quite reluctant to make some bold statements. Let’s just say that I would like to work on the family of Sylviidae and maybe, in the near future Turdidae and Muscicapide. All these families contain lot of species with lot of individuals so it will take some time to process all the photos. Another such rich family is Paridae, which I would like to process after this. We’ll see :) But in the near future, you can expect an article about ageing White Wagtails (Motacilla alba) in the autumn. I am preparing this ageing and sexing article for the Czech Ringing Society magazine and I will make also an online version of it (available in English) here at my website. That’s why the Motacilla alba account in the galllery is temporarily unavailable.
So, stay tuned, I hope there will be another update soon!
P.S.: Some information for those who were linking to species accounts in my gallery. The structure of the gallery changed a bit. First of all, all the “family accounts” have been cancelled. You now find all the families and species listed in the gallery home page. If you were linking some family page, please change the link according to the example bellow:
- old: http://ondrejkauzal.org/gallery/_fam195-locustellidae.html
- new: http://ondrejkauzal.org/gallery/index.html#195
There are no changes to links to concrete species. But the directory where images are stored have changed. It is now much easier for me to upload, search or edit the images. If you were linking to some image, please change the link according to the example below:
- old: http://ondrejkauzal.org/images/CZEP18/CZEP18-280_loc_flu-a.JPG
- new: http://ondrejkauzal.org/images/0gallery/CZEP18-280_loc_flu-a.JPG Note: the directory 0gallery is now universal for all photos. They are no longer sorted according to country and year.
I appologize for inconvenience.
