Huge milestone
16th January, 2026 | News & updates
Dear visitor of this website,
Hip hip hooray!!!
It is time to celebrate. But first, let me wish you all the best to the new year. I wish you luck and good health and many very great moments spent in nature.
But now, let us approach the big elephant in the room. I know I haven't posted much in recent years, but maybe you have seen that gallery was actually quite regularly updated . More and more photos have been added and for some species the gallery become unusable. Right now, there are 250 pictures of individual Eurasian Blackcaps. But what if you are interested only in photos of juvenile males? Right now, you had to manually scroll through the page and check every individual. Until now…
Finally, after around three years of promises, I managed to implement the filtering function to the gallery. So right now, you can filter each species in the gallery based on sex, age, month and year of capture, locality and you can even filter out individuals which have been photographed repeatedly or molecularly sexed. Multiple filters can be used at once so you can really tweak the filtering at your very best preference. I hope this will make using the gallery a bit more pleasant to you. But since I am very new to php and databases I need to ask you a favour – can you please report any broken links, photos or malfunctioning filters to me, if you ever encounter one? I will try to do my best to fix that as soon as possible. Thank you!
Also, those of you who got the brilliant Identification Atlas of the Continental Birds of Southwestern Europe by my excellent friend Javier Blasco Zumeta and Gerd-Michael Heinze maybe noticed there are some photos from this gallery included in the book! Yayyyy!!!!! Those who don’t have this book, go geit it! It is very worthwile.
So, thank you very much for visiting and I hope I will see you here very soon!
Warm regards,
Ondrej Kauzal
