Welcome to my website!
I am an ornithologist and a (bad) birdwatcher and this is my personal website where you can find information about myself and my research activities as well as various trip reports and blogposts (mainly) about birds.
Right now I am part of a team studying ecology of temperate and tropical passerines. Apart of that I am working also on other bird related projects and I am very interested in moult of birds. During our ringing activities, my wife and I take pictures of birds in hand to capture the variability in moult as an aid to bird ringers and birdwatchers in identification of the birds they trap or see. You can browse these photos in the gallery which is still being developed and updated.

This year in autumn, it will be the 10th year anniversary for this website and the idea of the gallery itself. Malicious code deleted, website is clean again!

Dear visitor of the website,
for past several weeks, there has been some malicious code on this website, that did not belong here. Fortunatelly, all it did was that it randomly redirected you to a weird advertisement. Maybe some of your browsers blocked it, maybe you did not even notice it. I certainly did not, until very very recently. I decided to promote the huge milestone, i.e. the filtering function (because I really think it is a huge thing) also on facebook in few bird ringing or ID related groups. And to get some attention I decided to accompany the post with a picture of eyes of several bird species (basically tha same you can see below the menu). And quite a few took it as a challenge and tried to identify the birds. Zítra odjíždím na Červenohorské sedlo (říkejme mu dále familiérně ČHS). V říjnu. Kdo tuto akci zná a trochu sleduje, tak možná tuší, že na ČHS se chytají ptáci v noci na světlo za účelem výzkumu jejich migrace. A kdo to sleduje trochu více, možná tuší, že takhle na začátku října se tam ptáci chytají trochu více. Ostatně byl to právě podobný termín, kdy jsme tam před čtyřmi lety s Dodinem a Velitelem zaváleli a chytili asi 3400 ptáků za týden, převážně červenek během nočních odchytů… Číst dál »

Je půlka září a tak je čas podívat se opět na zoubek protahujícícm konipasům bílým. Se sledováním jejich tahu jsem začal skoro náhodou v roce 2019. Jeden večer jsem si všiml, že konipasi zaletují večer do rákosí podobně jako vlaštovky a tak jsem to zkusmo zkusil. A ono to fungovalo naprosto náramně. Nadchnut tímto relativně snadným odchytem, zjistil jsem, že se toho o konipasech ví vlastně docela málo. Nejenže se vlastně konipasi moc nechytají (zkuste si někdo chytit konipasa na hnízdišti, to skoro nejde!), ale ani se pořádně neví, kam létají… Číst dál »

Teploty klesají pod nulu, sem tam spadne nějaký sníh a mokré silnice hrozí námrazou, inu už je opravdu čas přezout na zimní pneumatiky. Jedu tedy dnes dopoledne do svého oblíbeného servisu v Třebíči, abych jim tam auto na chvilku nechal… Číst dál »
Uplynul další týden, možná dva a já opět mířím k rybníku pochytat pár strnadů. Když jsem na něj koukal z auta ráno škvírami mezi keři, přišlo mi, že už jej zase napouštějí. To u rybníků nebývá zas tak překvapivé, já vím… Číst dál »
